On 1st February 2017, the new modules for Leadership and Management Training were added to Compass. The information below is to show how the new modules will display on Compass and how to add this module to an existing member’s Personal Learning Plan.
Guidance about the new training for Managers and Supporters and the transition to the new scheme can be found at scouts.org.uk/managementtraining.
Personal Learning Plan (PLP)
When a new Manager or Supporter role is added to Compass their PLP will display the Getting Started modules, the Training for All Appointments, the Leadership and Management training and, if applicable, any supplementary modules they are required to complete.
The new Leadership and Management training is displayed as 7 modules that are linked to the validation areas under the new Leadership and Management Training scheme (see screenshot below). These modules are:
- Providing Direction
- Achieving Results
- Working with People
- Enabling Change
- Using Resources
- Managing Time and Personal Skills
- Safety for Managers and Supporters
Note: modules 8, 9 and 25 will no longer appear on a Manager or Supporter PLP as these are not Manager and Supporter modules under the new scheme.
Adding a Leadership and Management module to an existing Manager or Supporter PLP
If you need to add a module from the new Leadership and management Training to an existing Member’s PLP, please follow this user guide on how to add a module. The new Leadership and Management training modules are coded as follows:
- LMP Providing Direction
- LMA Achieving Results
- LMW Working with People
- LME Enabling Change
- LMU Using Resources
- LMM Managing Time and Personal Skills
- LMS Safety for Managers and Supporters
Recording the learning methods, validation methods and validation criteria for the new Leadership and Management Training modules is done in the same way as for other modules by clicking the “Update” button on the right hand side for the corresponding module (see user guide for full details).
Adding Learning Methods
Additional learning methods have been added to the new modules to allow members to record the independent learning and skills courses that a learner has completed. As with all other modules on Compass these fields are not compulsory to update in order to validate the module.
The options available for recording learning methods for the Leadership and Management Training on Compass are as follows:
- Independent Learning Units
- Skills Courses
- RST Induction [England only]
- Prior Learning
Adding learning methods on the PLP on Compass is not mandatory in order to validate the module. However, it is recommended that the learning methods are recorded to show whether or not a learner has completed any of the Independent Learning Units or Skills Courses.
Adding Validation Criteria
The validation criteria that have been completed can be recorded in the same way as for other modules. A shortened description of the criteria has been included to identify the criteria as listed in the Adult’s Personal File for Managers and Supporters and the Training Advisers Guide – Managers and Supporters.
This is not mandatory in order for the module to be validated on Compass but it is recommended as a way of recording which criteria have been completed.
